Day Care Centre for Elderly in Gyumri

Goal
To enable 200 elderly people in Gyumri city of Shirak Marz (Armenia) to integrate into the society and be equally treated by providing a range of supportive services, also legal and social assistance.
Description:
The project involves a number of activities including both human or material resources as food commodities, hygienic items, organization of leisure, kitchen utensils and equipment for soup-kitchen, specific drugs needed for the elderly and clothing. The beneficiaries are provided with a daily one-time hot meal consisting of three courses.
All beneficiaries are registered in Primary Health Care Clinic of Armenian Caritas and receive medical assistance and medications according the doctor’s prescription. The doctors conduct lectures on different subjects as Personal Hygiene, Asthmatic Problems, etc.
Nurses specialized in geriatric care are responsible for home visits providing basic health care for the beneficiaries and general assistance according to individual needs.
Daily leisure includes table games, interesting TV programs and concerts with professional groups and schoolchildren, visiting museums and theatre.

Day Care Centre for disabled elderly in Tashir
Location: Lori region, Tashir

Goal
To enable disabled and mentally frail elderly people of Tashir town of Lori marz (Armenia) to integrate into the society and be equally treated by providing a range of supportive services, and also legal and social assistance.
Description:
The project tackles human rights issues and striving to protect the right of the elderly to be equally treated, which means adequate conditions for their and their families health and well being, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services (UNHR Article 25). It also contributes to protection of the right of each human being to participate freely in the cultural life of the community (UNHR Article 27).
60 elderly beneficiaries of the program attend the Day Care Centre 2-3 times a week (according to the schedule), in groups composed of 30 people . The daily activities of the centre include organization of leisure, nourishment, personal hygiene and primary health care provision, as well as legal counselling and social events. A number of actions planned in the project are targeted to raising the public awareness and advocating the rights of the elderly.
